O God of my Beginnings and of my Journey

I thank You, Great God, for never asking me to stop feeling. You know how often my feelings and my faith have seemed to be at odds with one another. Yet You made me a feeler. I have always felt You near.

I know that You are near—but thank You for allowing me to feel it. I need that. You know me.

Thank You for loving me. I know that You love me, but what an indescribable relief it is to feel Your love toward me.

Holy Spirit, continue to confirm in my heart all that God is doing in my life. Remind me of the promises placed in Your Word—promises that reveal what a faithful, purposeful, and astonishing God we serve. But please, always allow me to feel, to sense, to be moved, and to receive all that You have promised as beautiful, fulfilling, pleasurable, and warm.

Yes, Father—it is warm where You are.

I long for Your presence. I am not indifferent to Your presence. I know that Your Word says You are here, but still I long for You—as the deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for You.

I pray for a wave of feeling to sweep across Iceland: a wave of conviction, a wave of remembrance, and a wave of love that defies explanation.

You created us with this longing, Father, and we have made a royal mess of it. We do not understand what we long for, and we have an enemy who is more than willing to confuse us about our calling and about Your never-ending love.

Reach toward us tonight in Your compassion. Wake us in the darkness and shake us from our sleep.

Holy Spirit of God, move among us. Stir the pot. Unsettle the little arrangements we have made with life. Come in Your tsunami of gentleness and give Your Church an inexplicable thirst for You—an unquenchable thirst for Your presence and for worship.

Worship of a holy God.

Worship of the Friend who stays closer than a brother.

Call us to run—to run toward You with passion and desperate need. Let it begin deep within us: in our appetites, in our conversations, and in our solitude.

Heavenly Father, become enough for us.

Ignite again what has grown cold—what has become merely analytical, measurable, careful, and risk-free.

Do it tonight.

Do it first in me.

Capture my heart once again, for Your glory, for Your Kingdom, and for the sake of Your name—the name of Jesus, before whom every knee will bow and every tongue confess.

Begin with my knee.

Begin with my tongue.

Precious Savior, like an enormous volcano, reveal what has been burning beneath the surface all along: the immeasurable depth, the transforming power, and the everlasting strength of Your love.

Through Jesus Christ, we pray.

Amen.
